MP-100 Portable Integrated Pyranometer

MP-100 Portable Integrated Pyranometer

The MP-100 has a sensor integrated into the top of the housing while the handheld meter displays and stores measurements.

The MP-100 is ideally suited for quick and convenient spot measurements of global solar radiation in the range between 380 and 1120nm.

Typical applications of silicon-cell pyranometers include incoming shortwave radiation measurement in agricultural, ecological, and hydrological weather networks, and solar panel arrays.

Apogee Instruments MP series solar radiation meters consist of a handheld meter and a dedicated pyranometer that is integrated into the top of the meter housing (MP-100) or connected by cable to an anodized aluminum housing (MP-200).

Integrated and separate sensors consist of a cast acrylic diffuser (filter), photo-diode, and are potted solid with no internal air space.

MP series meters provide a real-time irradiance reading on the LCD display that determines the radiation incident on a planar surface (does not have to be horizontal), where the radiation emanates from all angles of a hemisphere.

MP series meters include manual and automatic data logging features for making spot-check measurements or calculating daily solar insolation.

MP-200: Pyranometer Separate Sensor with Handheld Meter

The MP-200 has a hand-held meter, attached via cable, that displays and stores measurements in W m-2. The sensor incorporates a silicon-cell photodiode with a rugged, self-cleaning sensor housing design. Typical applications include shortwave radiation measurement in agricultural, ecological, and hydrological weather networks and solar panel arrays.

The meter has a sample and log mode, and will record an integrated daily total in MJ m-2 d-1. Sample mode will record up to 99 manual measurements. Log mode will power the meter on/off to make a measurement every 30 seconds. Every 30 minutes the meter will average the sixty 30 second measurements and record the averaged value to memory.

The meter can store up to 99 averages, once full it will start to overwrite the oldest measurement with new ones. An integrated daily total will be recorded from the 48 averaged measurements (making a 24 hr period). Sample and log measurements can be reviewed on the LCD display or by downloading the data to a computer, however, the integrated daily total can only be viewed by downloading the data to a computer.

SP-215-SS: Amplified 0-5 Volt Pyranometer

The SP-215 is an amplified, analog sensor with a 0 to 5.0 V output. The sensor incorporates a silicon-cell photodiode with a rugged, self-cleaning sensor housing design, and high-quality cable terminating in pre-tinned pigtail leads for easy connection to dataloggers and controllers. Typical applications include shortwave radiation measurement in agricultural, ecological, and hydrological weather networks. Sensors are also used to optimize photovoltaic systems. Sensor includes IP68 marine-grade stainless-steel cable connector to simplify sensor removal and replacement for maintenance and recalibration.

SP-421-SS SDI-12 Digital Output Silicon-cell Pyranometer

The SP-421 is a digital sensor with SDI-12 communication protocol.

SP-710-SS: Albedometer Sensor Package

This promotional package includes a SP-510-SS thermopile pyranometer (upward-looking), a SP-610-SS thermopile pyranometer (downward-looking), an AY-001 differential splitter, and an AW-605-SS 5 meter cable.

Apogee Instruments SP-510 and SP-610 pyranometers consist of a thermopile detector, acrylic diffuser (SP-510) or glass window (SP-610), heater, and signal processing circuitry mounted in an anodized aluminum housing. For mounting to a mast or directly to a solar panel, we recommend using either the AL-130 Albedometer mounting bracket or the AM-500 Net Radiometer mounting bracket paired with an AM-130 mounting fixture with 12″ rod.

Albedo measurements indicate the broadband shortwave reflectivity of materials and are used to monitor bifacial solar panels, understand heat retention in urban and architectural settings, and study climate and weather. Typical applications for pyranometers include shortwave radiation measurement in agricultural, ecological, and hydrological weather networks.

The SP-710-SS includes in-line IP68 marine-grade stainless-steel cable connectors placed 30 cm from the sensor heads for either standard use as a long-cable pigtail sensor, or for use with our microCache Bluetooth Micro Logger. To connect both sensors to the microCache for dual measurements, use the AY-001 differential splitter.
